What keeps you going and why?

About the project

In these crazy times, it can be hard to keep going, but keep on going we must. So the question is: ‘what keeps you going?’ Is it family, friends, your job, a hobby, something else?

Our Strength Is In Our Connection is a Hull-based community craft project which ran between May and September 2023. The aim of the project was to jointly create a paper chain with each link representing something that keeps the maker of that link going.

The hope was that between the things that keep us going and the underlying reasons, much common ground would emerge. We personally believe that it’s precisely in these connections where our strength lies, hence the project title.

The assembly and ‘grand unfurling’ of the chain took place on 9th September in Pearson Park (see photo below). The completed chain and some of the stories behind the individual links will be exhibited in Humber Street Gallery, Hull between 19 October and 19 November 2023.

This website showcases the individual links and the stories behind them. Simply scroll through the posts below, or use the categories on the left to navigate directly to posts on topics of interest to you.

We hope that as you explore the posts, you’ll recognise lots of the things that keep people going and the reasons why.
